Wednesday Comics #1

Wednesday Comics #1

DC’s been doing the weekly thing for about 3 years now.  “52” was a bit slow in the second act, but ulitmately a damn good series.  “Countdown/Countdown to Final Crisis” was kind of a wreck.  And I dropped “Trinity” after about 5 issues.

They’re giving it another go with “Wednesday Comics“.  I’ve been trying to put words to this review for a while, and I simply can’t.  15 characters by 15 creative teams, in 15 one page stories told in the style of the Sunday funnies.  The teams they have working on this book are simply top notch.  They’ve tapped talents the like of Brian Azzarello, Lee Bermejo, Neil Gaiman, Jimmy Palmiotti, Karl Kerschl and more.  Even Dan Didio is getting in on the action with “Metal Men”.  There’s not a lot to say other than its really, really, really good.  And its only 12 weeks long, meaning DC may have finally learned their lesson about how long a good story lasts.

There’s not a lot I can say about this issue.  Either this review would go on for an eternity as I ramble about each story, so I’m gonna say this instead.  Buy this book now.  Its that good, and you owe it to yourself.  If you want to know more about a specific story, leave  a comment about what you want to know, and I’ll reply as quickly as I can.  Hopefully, before next week, I’ll think of some way I can do this that won’t take you all day to read.

Wednesday Comics” #1 gets an A for being just damn awesome.  And for those who are wondering, the two I’m most excited about are easily the suspenseful “Batman” tale by Azzarello and Risso, and the classic feeling “Flash” story by Kerschl and Fletcher.

The Pull List! Week of June 17, 2009

In The Pull List! on June 15, 2009 at 12:49 am

I reformatted the computer recently, and don’t have everything back in place yet. So, no video pull list right now! We’re doing it up old school today, kids. Don’t forget, Captain America #600 comes out Monday instead of Wednesday, and just because its not on the list doesn’t mean it isn’t good.

The Pull List! Week of March 11th, 2009

In The Pull List! on March 16, 2009 at 5:00 pm

Just like a few weeks ago, when Marvel unleashed an onslaught of Avengers titles, they’re doing it again this week: every X-Men title but Cable is coming out this week!!  It seems like poor marketing, in my opinion.  How could they possibly expect people who are fans of the books to afford all these?  Ultimate X-Men and Young X-Men end this week, but next month will also see the launch of the revamped New Mutants, which we now know is going to feature Illyana Rasputin.

Meanwhile, over on the DC side of things, we’re getting our second Battle for the Cowl crossover, this week, and I’m really excited.  I was a pretty big fan of Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael, and I’m eager to see if I’m right about who this new Azrael is, and how they’re going to handle the character.  Judging by solicits on DC’s website, though, it looks like this one is going to be great.

That said, lets get going!  Time for this week’s PULL LIST!

The Pull List! — Week of February 18, 2009

In The Pull List! on February 18, 2009 at 1:06 am

So here we are, my first official pull list on the new Homeworld, and I must admit its a bitter one.  Last week saw the end of “Nightwing”, and this week sees the end of two more great DCU titles, “Robin” and “Birds of Prey”.  Its quite the shame; these titles have had their missteps but have always been solid books with consistently good sales and fantastic stories.  Mind you, these characters will be showing up next week in “Battle for the Cowl”, but that’s beyond the point.  That said, let’s dive in headfirst: here’s what you need to be sure to pick up in comics this week!

Nick Fury Returns, Overcompensates

In Site News on June 5, 2008 at 1:20 am

Well, Nick Fury returned at the end of Secret Invasion #3, and he had a gun that makes Rob Liefeld fucking weep. Seriously, that thing has two triggers.

The week in comics (so far) after the jump. Spoilers ahead.
