E3 2009 – Sony

In Gaming News on June 2, 2009 at 9:50 pm

sony-playstation3-40gb-game-consoleLast year they lost Final Fantasy 13. This year they lost Metal Gear Solid. They’re last place int the gaming arms race. Did they save face this year? Well, you tell me. Here are the highlights from Sony’s press conference.

Heavy Rain – Not much info was given about the game. Only a trailer was shown.

New Ratchet and Clank – See above.

Uncharted 2 – This game looked very nice. I personally can’t wait to play this, the original was amazing.

MAG – Maybe it was just a bad demo, but this look dull as hell. I can’t say I have any interest in this.

PSP Go! – The much rumored update to the flop known as the PSP was unveiled. This thing will be 250 bucks. Really, Sony? You guys know we’re in a recession, right? You also know one could buy a Wii for the same price?

Gran Tourismo PSP – Chris said he thought this game was three years too late. I agree. Regardless, this is set to be released October 1st, 2009.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker – Well, the PSP is getting one cool announcement. This game looked to be a definite buy. The trailer was very cool.

Resident Evil PSP – Not much info was given besides the name.

Final Fantasy 7 – This will be available today (6-2-09) on the PSN.

Guitar Hero: Van Halen – You know how these games work. If you’re a fan of Van Halen, no doubt you’ll buy this game.

New Katamari – Not much info was given. Just the announcement.

Final Fantasy 14 – This surprised the hell out of me. Final Fantasy 13 isn’t out, but lo and behold, he we are with a Final Fantasy 14 announcement. This one will be PS3 exclusive.

PS3 Motion Controller – Nintendo should sue over this. This thing was a WiiMote with a glowing orb on top. A blatant rip-off.

Agent – This game will be PS3 exclusive.

ModNation Racers – Much like LittleBigPlanet, this will be completely customizable by the player. It’s basically LBP if that was a kart racer.

The Last Guardian – This is the third installment in the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus trilogy. Looked really beautiful and had a great score.

Grand Tourismo 5 – I didn’t catch a release date for this, I may have not been paying attention.

God of War III – Of course this is what everyone wanted to hear about. A bit of gameplay was shown, definitely looks amazing. It will be a must buy when it is released in March 2010.

So there you have it. Nothing big from Sony. I would say Microsoft won the show, as much as that pains me (yes, I am a Nintendo fanboy). Really shocked that Sony didn’t announce a price cut for the PS3. I don’t don’t look for them to come out of last place anytime soon, if ever.

E3 2009 – Microsoft

In Gaming News on June 1, 2009 at 10:01 pm

xbox-360If you’re a gamer, you know exactly what this time of year signifies. You got it, E3. Throughout the week, I will offer you a summary of the notable games/accessories/etc. each of the big three is offering. So without further delay, here is Microsoft’s offerings.

Rock Band: The Beatles – I will admit, I am probably the only person on Earth who doesn’t like The Beatles’ music. Nonetheless, Microsofts first game announcement of the day was this game. From what I saw, it looked pretty cool. Definitely a must if you’re a fan of The Beatles.

Tony Hawk: Ride – The new Tony Hawk game comes with a Wii Balance Board-like accessory that you use to play the game. I’m not a fan of any of the skating games, but if you happen to be, this looks to be a game for you.

Modern Warfare 2 – Again, I am not big on war games. But, you guessed it, if you happen to be you’ll like this.

Epic’s Shadow Complex – This game will be available on X-Box Live Arcade. It looked decent from what I was able to see. I will probably check this out when released.

Final Fantasy 13 – Of course, this was announced last year. A brief clip from the game was shown, looked to be pretty cool. They announced that in Spring 2010 the game will be released.

Halo 3: ODST – If you’re a Halo fan, you’ll buy this no matter what. I honestly couldn’t tell if it’s a full Halo game or a short sidequest-like game to keep the fans sustained until the next game arrives…

Halo: Reach – Very little was shown of this game. All I know is that it’s a new Halo game, and that’s all that needs to be said.

Forza Motorsports 3 – Only briefly played the first game, I didn’t play the second. That being said, this game definitely looked very nice. I may check it out upon release.

Crackdown 2 – I was surprised to hear about a sequel to Crackdown. This looked to be completely different than it’s predocessor. Can’t wait to play this.

Left 4 Dead 2 – What can I say? This is a definite buy when it’s released November 17th, 2009. I am surprised to see a sequel so early.

Metal Gear Solid franchise/Metal Gear Solid: Rising – Ouch. I told Chris that this would be the nail in Sony’s coffin, and unless Sony lays out some amazing shit at their press conference tomorrow, I stand by that. Metal Gear Solid: Rising will not feature Solid Snake. Raiden will be the star in this one.

Facebook and Twitter to X-Box Live – I really couldn’t care less about this. If you do, congrats on the news.

Last.FM to X-Box LiveĀ  – See above.

Project Natal – If you missed it, Project Natal is Microsoft’s controller-less new innovation is will allow to you to play (yep) without controllers. The demos looked pretty cool, but I don’t see this being as smooth as it was in said demos. I am sure this thing will be really expensive, but I can’t wait to check it out.

Well, that’s the highlights from today! Check back tomorrow for info on Sony’s press conference.

Review: Legends of Wrestlemania

In Game Reviews on April 4, 2009 at 1:44 pm

Just around the corner (well tomorrow, to be specific) is the 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania, what many consider to be the Super Bowl/World Series of professional wrestling. Because of this, WWE and THQ have released Legends of Wrestlemania, a game featuring many big stars of past and present. Does this game live up to the legendary name of Wrestlemania? Well, not really. What we have here is a mediocre game that could have been so much more.
