"Batman: Arkham Asylum"'s Scarecrow revealed!

In Gaming News on July 27, 2009 at 3:57 pm

Batman: Arkham Asylum” is shaping up to be pretty damn spiffy.  Both Derk and I have played the PS3 demo of the game, and found it to be a lot of fun and just gorgeous to look at.  The delay for the game really sucked, but fortunately it’ll be out in a just a few short weeks (Currently, the release is slated for August 25th).

Last week, GameStop let slip an exclusive look at their pre-order challenge maps, and with it came a look at the game’s redesigned Scarecrow.

Now, I’m not entirely sure what’s up with the Freddy Krueger styled glove with hypodermic needles…I just know YEESH!  As someone who hates needles, that’s terrifying.  An interesting redesign that obviously doesn’t touch the classic, but certainly keeps in line with what we’ve seen of the game so far.

No DLC For "Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe"

In Gaming News on July 7, 2009 at 6:37 pm

Ed Boon confirmed via his Twitter account that DLC for last years Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe has gone the way of the Dodo.  The worst part is, it appears they were almost finished with two characters, MK protagonist Quan Chi and The Joker’s main squeeze, Harley Quinn.  Boon posted the accompanying image of Quan Chi, as a “look at what could have been”.

While it ultimately does suck, the team is hard at work on the upcoming 9th entry of the Mortal Kombat franchise, which is likely to get a snazzy subtitle soon.  There’s no set release date, but I think we can all agree that we’d rather have a new, proper MK game. Moral Kombat 9 is set to be a sequel to the last true game in the franchise, 2006’s Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

And yes, it has been that long since Armageddon came out. Feel free to light up the comments with what you want to see in the next game and what you hope they leave out.

E3 2009 – Sony

In Gaming News on June 2, 2009 at 9:50 pm

sony-playstation3-40gb-game-consoleLast year they lost Final Fantasy 13. This year they lost Metal Gear Solid. They’re last place int the gaming arms race. Did they save face this year? Well, you tell me. Here are the highlights from Sony’s press conference.

Heavy Rain – Not much info was given about the game. Only a trailer was shown.

New Ratchet and Clank – See above.

Uncharted 2 – This game looked very nice. I personally can’t wait to play this, the original was amazing.

MAG – Maybe it was just a bad demo, but this look dull as hell. I can’t say I have any interest in this.

PSP Go! – The much rumored update to the flop known as the PSP was unveiled. This thing will be 250 bucks. Really, Sony? You guys know we’re in a recession, right? You also know one could buy a Wii for the same price?

Gran Tourismo PSP – Chris said he thought this game was three years too late. I agree. Regardless, this is set to be released October 1st, 2009.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker – Well, the PSP is getting one cool announcement. This game looked to be a definite buy. The trailer was very cool.

Resident Evil PSP – Not much info was given besides the name.

Final Fantasy 7 – This will be available today (6-2-09) on the PSN.

Guitar Hero: Van Halen – You know how these games work. If you’re a fan of Van Halen, no doubt you’ll buy this game.

New Katamari – Not much info was given. Just the announcement.

Final Fantasy 14 – This surprised the hell out of me. Final Fantasy 13 isn’t out, but lo and behold, he we are with a Final Fantasy 14 announcement. This one will be PS3 exclusive.

PS3 Motion Controller – Nintendo should sue over this. This thing was a WiiMote with a glowing orb on top. A blatant rip-off.

Agent – This game will be PS3 exclusive.

ModNation Racers – Much like LittleBigPlanet, this will be completely customizable by the player. It’s basically LBP if that was a kart racer.

The Last Guardian – This is the third installment in the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus trilogy. Looked really beautiful and had a great score.

Grand Tourismo 5 – I didn’t catch a release date for this, I may have not been paying attention.

God of War III – Of course this is what everyone wanted to hear about. A bit of gameplay was shown, definitely looks amazing. It will be a must buy when it is released in March 2010.

So there you have it. Nothing big from Sony. I would say Microsoft won the show, as much as that pains me (yes, I am a Nintendo fanboy). Really shocked that Sony didn’t announce a price cut for the PS3. I don’t don’t look for them to come out of last place anytime soon, if ever.

E3 2009 – Nintendo

In Gaming News on June 2, 2009 at 9:33 pm

nintendo_wii After the extremely dull and uneventful press conference last year, Nintendo promised to come back with a vengeance this year. Well, this year has came and gone for Nintendo, so how did they do? Well, in my humble opinion, only a couple of announcements saved them from having a worse year than last year. Here are the highlights from their press conference this year.

Mario Bros. Wii – This was the first announcement of the day. This is a 2D side scroller that can have up to 4 players. Looked pretty good, but nothing mind blowing. It’s Mario, so they’ve already sold me a copy.

Wii Fit Plus – The new Wii Fit features a calorie counter and a customizable workout. I guess if you like Wii Fit you’ll enjoy this. Who knows. 15 new balance games will also be included.

Motion Plus/Wii Sports Resort – This was announced last year, but we finally got a date this year. This is scheduled to be released July 26th of this year.

Red Steel 2 – I made the remark to Chris that I don’t understand why they made this. I stand by that.

Final Fantasy: The Crystal Bearers – I am not a big fan of the Final Fantasy series, so I can’t really give anything but a biased opinion on this.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days – Definitely looking forward to this. The graphics looked really nice for something coming out on the DS. This is a DS exclusive.

Mario and Luigi RPG : Bowser’s Inside Story – This game takes place inside of Bowser. Looked really interesting. The previous M&L RPG’s were quality games, so I am thinking we’ll have a good game here. This comes out on the DS this Fall.

Golden Sun DS – Golden Sun returns to Nintendo handheld. Not much information was given about the game, only a short teaser was shown.

Jame’s Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club: Games of Passion – This wins the “WTF” of the show. Seriously, who would buy this? Comes out for the DS, if you’re one of the very few who are chomping at the bit for this game.

Cop: The Recruit – This upcoming DS game looked similar to something from the GTA series. It looked alright, I guess.

Style Savy DS – A fashion game. Yeah.

Flip Note Studio – This is exclusively available for the DSi.

A New Mario v.s. Donkey Kong – This new addition to the series features customizable levels. Will be released June 8th.

Legends of Zelda: Spirit Tracks – This new addition of the Zelda series is headed to the DS. A release date or additional info was not given.

WarioWare: DIY – This new WarioWare game for the DS will let the game create their own mini games.

Wii Vitality Sensor – This wins second place in the “WTF” contest. Not much infor was given. I won’t lie, this thing looks silly as all hell.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 – This lit up the crowd, rightfully so. The first game was amazing, so I am sure we’re in for the same with this one.

The Conduit, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles, and Dead Space: Extraction – These were the third party announcements. Not much of an announcement, most knew these were scheduled to be released.

Metriod: Other M – Team Ninja is working on this, so you know it’s going to be insanely hard. But still, this was the announcement of the show for me. Team Ninja and Metroid? Hell yes.

Not a great showing, but Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M saved it. Up next, Sony’s live suic…er…press conference.

E3 2009 – Microsoft

In Gaming News on June 1, 2009 at 10:01 pm

xbox-360If you’re a gamer, you know exactly what this time of year signifies. You got it, E3. Throughout the week, I will offer you a summary of the notable games/accessories/etc. each of the big three is offering. So without further delay, here is Microsoft’s offerings.

Rock Band: The Beatles – I will admit, I am probably the only person on Earth who doesn’t like The Beatles’ music. Nonetheless, Microsofts first game announcement of the day was this game. From what I saw, it looked pretty cool. Definitely a must if you’re a fan of The Beatles.

Tony Hawk: Ride – The new Tony Hawk game comes with a Wii Balance Board-like accessory that you use to play the game. I’m not a fan of any of the skating games, but if you happen to be, this looks to be a game for you.

Modern Warfare 2 – Again, I am not big on war games. But, you guessed it, if you happen to be you’ll like this.

Epic’s Shadow Complex – This game will be available on X-Box Live Arcade. It looked decent from what I was able to see. I will probably check this out when released.

Final Fantasy 13 – Of course, this was announced last year. A brief clip from the game was shown, looked to be pretty cool. They announced that in Spring 2010 the game will be released.

Halo 3: ODST – If you’re a Halo fan, you’ll buy this no matter what. I honestly couldn’t tell if it’s a full Halo game or a short sidequest-like game to keep the fans sustained until the next game arrives…

Halo: Reach – Very little was shown of this game. All I know is that it’s a new Halo game, and that’s all that needs to be said.

Forza Motorsports 3 – Only briefly played the first game, I didn’t play the second. That being said, this game definitely looked very nice. I may check it out upon release.

Crackdown 2 – I was surprised to hear about a sequel to Crackdown. This looked to be completely different than it’s predocessor. Can’t wait to play this.

Left 4 Dead 2 – What can I say? This is a definite buy when it’s released November 17th, 2009. I am surprised to see a sequel so early.

Metal Gear Solid franchise/Metal Gear Solid: Rising – Ouch. I told Chris that this would be the nail in Sony’s coffin, and unless Sony lays out some amazing shit at their press conference tomorrow, I stand by that. Metal Gear Solid: Rising will not feature Solid Snake. Raiden will be the star in this one.

Facebook and Twitter to X-Box Live – I really couldn’t care less about this. If you do, congrats on the news.

Last.FM to X-Box Live  – See above.

Project Natal – If you missed it, Project Natal is Microsoft’s controller-less new innovation is will allow to you to play (yep) without controllers. The demos looked pretty cool, but I don’t see this being as smooth as it was in said demos. I am sure this thing will be really expensive, but I can’t wait to check it out.

Well, that’s the highlights from today! Check back tomorrow for info on Sony’s press conference.
