Welcome to Zombieland

movie_ZombieLand_stillHollywood loves Tallahassee,FL. Or at least making vague stereotyped references to it. Tallahassee is where LOST’s Sawyer picked up an STD. Tallahassee is where LOST’s Kate was attempting to run from the law to. “The Man from Tallahassee” is the title of the thirteenth episode of LOST.

Come to think of it, my only experience with Tallahassee being mentioned is only ever in LOST episodes. Sure, there is the HBO movie, Recount, but that was about events taking place in Tallahassee. So maybe it’s J.J. Abrams that is obsessed with Tallahassee. (Don’t even get me started on the fact that all the last names of the main characters in LOST are also streets in Tallahassee.)

Mr. Abrams might harbor some bizarre crush on the capitol of Florida. But it looks like Hollywood is following suite.

You want more proof?

Let me introduce you to a man named Tallahassee.

Tallahassee is a simple man with classic tastes. He likes his jeans broken in, his boots shiny, his cowboy hat cocked at just the right angle over his aviator shades. Tallahassee enjoys the little things in life. A shot of whiskey with a friend, dancing to a good tune, and killing zombies.

It’s like his mama always told him. Someday he’d be good at something. Of course, Tallahassee doesn’t think she meant zombie killing.

Welcome to Zombieland.

Zombieland is a horror comedy starring Woody Harrelson, Abigail “Little Miss Sunshine” Breslin, Emma “Superbad” Stone, Jesse “The Village” Eisenberg and Bill Murray as Zombie.

Written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wenick and directed by Ruben Fleischer the story focuses on two men, Columbus (Eisenberg) and Tallahassee (Harrelson). Columbus and Tallahassee couldn’t be further apart personality wise. Columbus tends to run from anything and everything that scares him. Tallahassee doesn’t seem to be afraid of anything and loves a challenge, especially if it involves killing a zombie. Like a zombie apocalyptic Odd Couple, Columbus and Tallahassee fight their way through legions of the undead. With a rag tag band of survivors, all named after the city they were rescued or originated from, they end up in an amusement park where they think they will be safe. (Fun fact, they filmed the amusement park scenes at Wild Adventures in Valdosta,GA.)

Zombieland is set to hit theatres October 2009.

For more details about production and the film as they develop, check out the official website. Or follow them on facebook, or twitter. (I highly recommend following their twitter account. It reads like an amusing daily update from someone dealing with a life full of zombies. Example: It’s bad enough these zombies never sleep, but they had to go and eat everyone working in the porn industry.9:26 PM Jun 30th from web )

And make certain to watch the trailer. This trailer is now in my top five best trailers of 2009 list.
