Review: Up

1952-upmovieposterPixar’s latest offering is Up, a movie that says you’re never too old for adventure. The plot of the film revolves around an old man named Carl Fredricksen. Carl, as he grows older, quickly realizes that the world around him has changed in such a way that has made him extremely bitter. When threatened with a future in a retirement home, Carl decides to have the adventure he never had throughout his life. Thus he heads……*wait for it*…..Up.

Look, I am not the type of person that will gush over something. As a matter of fact, a lot of people often tell me that I hate everything. Be that as it may, I can’t say anything bad concerning this movie. I loved Wall*E, it was one of my favorite movies from last year, but I must say it takes a backseat to Up.

The story is just perfect. You can’t help but find yourself feeling every emotion that Carl feels. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that this is just a typical “kid’s” movie, it’s not. Within the first 45 minutes of the movie, you’ll find yourself incredibly depressed. Without giving away any spoilers, the beginning of this movie is absolutely soul crushing.

The visuals in this movie were nothing short of beautiful. Seeing this movie in 3D really amplifies the beauty of the visuals, so if you have that option, definitely go with it.

Guys, I really don’t know what else to say about this movie besides it’s perfect. I really mean it, there is nothing wrong with this movie. It may be the best Pixar movie ever. I also think it’s a definite thing that this film will take home some Oscars when the time comes. Best picture? I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if it won. This is easily the best movie of 2009 thus far, do yourself a favor and go check it out immediately.

Final Grade: A+ – Perfect Score
